Lexus Melnyk

Upon recommendation from her professors in the School of Natural & Applied Science, Lexus was selected for research internships in organic chemistry and biochemistry with Franciscan University’s FISH program. Here, she had the opportunity to hone her skills in synthesis, protein production and mutation, and experimentation.

In more advanced research, she enthusiastically embraced the challenge to develop designer tools for drug discovery in Alzheimer’s Disease by applying the biochemical tool known as FRET, or Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer, to monitor protein activity that can lead to the disease.

These opportunities provided Lexus with enhanced laboratory experience and critical thinking skills that are indispensable to being competitive in the job market.
